Bend-2-Mend: Introduction to Dynamic Restorative Yoga with Leeann Carey
“We often think of restorative yoga s a fairly passive practice, so the phrase “Dynamic Restorative Yoga” may seem contradictory. but this 50 minute practice is somewhat more active than what we usually deem restorative.”
“Still, the emphasis throughout is on breath awareness and conscious movement, using an Iyengar-ish number of props, including a chair, a bolster, and blankets. the exercises here – divided into 3 sections titled “warm up,” ”doing,” and “Being”, – are typically either simplified or modified yoga postures, including forward bends, twists and Downward Facing Dog.”
“Carey, a certified Iyengar teacher who has also studied Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, provides clear, precise and unfailingly positive instructions. She and her two models demonstrate both easier and more challenging variations of each pose. This well executed practice has something to offer all levels of students.”

Congratulations to Carol Clement, winner of the LCY Breathing Article Contest. Carol won a free LCY teacher training module. She chose to attend the Yapana Foundation master intensive. Read below about Carol’s experience and check out the photo of her at the training, while she was practicing a dynamic yet supported back bend.
“I took the Foundation master intensive a week ago at Yoga Bindu in San Pedro, CA. I am so appreciative of all that I learned. Took the hands-on adjustments to my classes. My students really liked getting more of the hands-on assistance w/their alignment. Yoga Bindu was a lovely studio & the training was a solid learning experience for any yoga instructor. Highly recommend it. Carol Clement, E-RYT”

The Leeann Carey Yoga School Presents Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training Programs including Exclusive Yoga Therapy Modules for Special Populations.
(Redondo Beach, CA) – The Leeann Carey Yoga School presents a 200 hour and an advanced 300 hour teacher training program, including specialized yoga therapy modules, for teachers seeking to deepen their skills and secure Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) certification. Trainings are presented at hosting studios across the United States and all exceed the standards for Yoga Alliance certification. Some training program modules also offer ACE continuing education credits.
Designed for teachers in studios, fitness and athletic facilities, Leeann Carey Yoga (LCY) training programs draw from the evolution of 5,000-year-old science of life traditions and current methods to develop, support and promote yoga teaching skills regardless of the style of practice. For those already teaching, the training programs strengthen their ability to integrate proven mind-body principles and advance their teaching to serve special populations interested in improved athletic performance, mobility, balance and stress management.
“Everyone comes to yoga to improve something about their body, mind or general well being,” shares Leeann Carey. “Rather than simply lead a yoga class, our comprehensive inside-out approach provides teachers with the essential tools to teach yoga that truly inspires their students. Our purpose is to build a community of teachers who teach with an open heart and a skilled touch, teachers willing to produce profound life changing results in themselves and their students. And, most importantly, to have fun in the process.”
Leeann has been training both beginning and advanced yoga teachers for 15 years. Her comprehensive approach and eclectic blend of yoga was forged over 30 years of extensive practice and study with teachers such as Kofi Busia, Donna Farhi, Erich Schiffmann and Judith Lasater. Before committing to training teachers full time, Leeann founded and operated Planet Yoga, a full-service yoga studio in Southern California, where she developed insight and experience for building a successful community-focused yoga business. Leeann has also worked with many elite athletes, including the World Champion Los Angeles Lakers and Olympic Gold Medal Volleyball player Eric Fonoimoana, helping them improve their conditioning, performance and recover from injuries.
